Happy Monday folks!
I've got some wonderful, nourishing recipes for a DIY spa day. Homemade bath and body products are usually far superior to just about anything you can purchase at the drug store. By making products up as you need them, you can limit the preservatives that are required on products that need a shelf life.
A word of caution: Some bath & beauty recipes are meant to be used up right away, or have a very limited shelf life. Three days in the fridge max. Use the food leftover rule. If you make something from fresh ingredients, and would not eat it after three days - it's not OK to smear it all over your body either. Unless otherwise noted on the recipe (or my notes) use that as a rule of thumb.
Water based recipes: Again - three days in the fridge max. Water based products spoil very quickly. Do not sell, or give these away as gifts. Use immediately. A commercial preservative system would be required.
A wonderfuly refreshing salt scrub made with olive oil, sea salt, and fresh lemon. Scrub away your dry winter skin. Olive oil is a fabulous moisturizer, especially for very dry skin. For a lighter oil choose Sweet Almond, or Grapeseed Oil. You can usually find these in the health food store, and some supermarkets. From the BeautyDepartment.com
The simplest ever Lip Scrub Recipe!
There is nothing worse than dry, flaky itchy lips. Keep your lips looking, and feeling their best by using this simple recipe once a week. With only two ingredients that almost eveyrone has in their pantry anyway - there is no excuse!
Mix 1 tbl of Sugar (brown or white), with 1 tsp (or so) of honey. Add just enough honey to make a nice thick paste. If you want to add some extra moisturizing qualities to your scrub, add in a bit of olive oil as well. Just try to keep the consistancy to a nice thick paste. Apply to lips, and gently scrub using your fingers, or a toothbrush for a few minutes to remove the dead skin. Rinse off.
Garden Spa
One of my favourite beauty blogs - The Natural Beauty Workshop featured a post a while back on making garden fresh face masks. You'll find one no matter what your skin type. Yoghurt Mint, Cucumber Honey & Lemon Basil. They look good enough to eat! Your skin will thank you.
Sugar Scrub Cubes
Here's another fabulous sugar scrub recipe that is a little more complicated. Certainly not difficult, but will require a few more ingredients. I do recommend that you order a good melt and pour soap base from BrambleBerry. The craft store variety of Melt and Pour soap is generally of poor quality. In this case - you certainly get what you pay for. These make wonderful, and very appreciated gifts. But enough supplies to make some for your friends as well. Watch the video below, and the link to the recipe is here.
